Discover What’s Really Behind Your Skin Allergy (Eczema)

Tired of the endless flare-ups — even after trying “everything”

You’ve probably used different types of creams, switched different diets, tried expensive skincare, but you're still dealing with allergy flare-ups. Here's the truth most people never hear:

Skin allergy isn’t just a skin problem.

If your eczema or skin allergy keeps flaring up, it’s likely more than just sensitive skin—it’s a sign of an overactive immune response.

Why I’m sharing this with you

I'm Dr. Neogh, a registered medical doctor based in Bukit Mertajam (Penang) with over 10 years of experience in skin health.

Over the years, I’ve helped many patients manage and overcome skin conditions—especially skin allergies. While most people improve with simple creams or basic treatment, I often see a smaller group who continue to suffer from persistent, itchy rashes that just won’t go away.

In these cases, a more holistic and personalised approach is often needed—one that looks beyond the surface to uncover the root causes, such as hidden allergens, immune imbalances, or lifestyle factors.

That’s why I created this page for you. Through this page, I’d like to share what I’ve seen in my practice—why skin allergies can be more complex than they seem, and how understanding the real causes can lead to lasting relief.

Itchy Rashes that Keep Returning

Applying creams on the skin surface can soothe the itch and reduce redness—but they only offer temporary relief. When hidden allergens remain in your environment, your immune system continues to overreact, triggering the same frustrating flare-ups again and again.

To truly break the cycle, you need to go deeper:

  • Uncover and eliminate hidden triggers
  • Balance the immune response
  • Rebuild and protect your skin defence

Lasting relief is achievable, not by masking symptoms, but by addressing the overactive immune response that drives the condition.

Common Allergens Around You

Understanding your triggers is the first step toward lasting relief. Here are a few common, but often overlooked allergens (allergy triggers) and how you can reduce your exposure:

1. Dust

Dust may seem harmless, but it’s one of the most frequent causes of allergy flare-ups. These tiny airborne particles can carry allergens like dust mites, mould spores, and pollen, which activate the immune system and trigger allergic reaction.

Simple ways to reduce dust exposure:

  • Keep your home well-ventilated
  • Clean surfaces with a damp cloth once or twice a day
  • Avoid carpets and heavy curtains that trap dust
  • Use an air purifier with a HEPA filter

2. Nickel in Jewellery and Accessories

Nickel is commonly found in bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and even clothing buttons. While it’s valued for its durability and shine, it can cause allergic skin reactions in those sensitive to it.

Tips for managing nickel allergy:

  • Choose jewellery made of hypoallergenic materials like stainless steel, silver, or titanium
  • Use fabric covers on metal buttons or fasteners. For example, if you’re allergic to the button on your jeans, tuck in your shirt to prevent direct skin contact
  • Avoid prolonged skin contact with nickel-containing accessories

Uncover What’s Really Triggering Your Skin Allergy

Everyday substances—from laundry detergents to accessories and even certain foods—can silently worsen skin allergies. Identifying these triggers isn’t always easy, but it's a critical first step toward lasting relief.
